Duran Duran Finishes New LP Featuring Janelle Monae

Press

It’s 2015, and there’s Duran Duran news that is worth getting exciting about, if only very cautiously: the band, which saw its heyday in the ’80s, has reportedly finished a full-length album that was produced by Mark Ronson and Chic’s Nile Rodgers, and which will feature spots by futurist R&B wunderkind Janelle Monae and “Hideaway” dancer/singer Kiesza.

Nile Rodgers previously produced a remix of Duran Duran’s “The Reflex,” which, upon its 1984 release, became the band’s best-selling song. Mark Ronson produced the band’s 2010 release All You Need Is Now, which was mostly OK, but nothing worth writing home about. (Writing to the Internet, though? Clearly.)

There’s no release date yet, but it’s expected to be out later this year — possibly September — via Warner Bros. The Monae-featured track is expected to be the first single. The Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante is also said to have guested on the album. One hopes David Lynch somehow played a part in the aural aesthetic of the untitled album, too, seeing as he’s been highly involved in the band’s life for the past three years.
